Dead Space 2 review
A mutated baby explodes in a cloud of crimson and a macabre sense of humour, setting the amoral tone for yet another game crafted with an almost beautiful uncomfortability. Cast straight back into the same feeling of paranoia and isolation, with the same desirably tense atmospherics, brought to the foreground with near-pitch-perfect antiphonies of design ethics. Fantastical mutations and that lovely ‘under the skin’ sensation tantalize and restrain you from turning around the corner. Deliberately slow movement and clumsy controls, imperfections that both work proactively and counteractively to the ambiance. An incredible, yet generic, foray into survival horror. 8
