Twitter Introduces New Algorithmic Timeline

Remember a while back when we said Twitter is going start looking a lot like Facebook? Today they've rolled out a significant change towards this transition: an algorithmic timeline. 

Twitter's own customer research found that users were suffering from serious FOMO, and they are responding in turn with this new feature. But don't worry, it's not turning into a carbon copy of Zuckerberg's creation.

“You follow hundreds of people on Twitter — maybe thousands — and when you open Twitter, it can feel like you've missed some of their most important Tweets," the team explain in their blog

So what exactly have they done? Much like the "while you were away" feature they introduced before, you'll see a series of tweets picked for you based on an algorithm determining what is most relevant to you. The main difference is that "while you were away" title won't be shown to highlight it.

I can see how it may cause confusion in the timeline for people used to a chronological stream of content, and this does move the whole idea of Twitter away from what Twitter is. But we'll keep optimistic with this new move.
